inYour remedy is within you, but you do not sense it. Your sickness is from you, but you do not perceive it. You presume you’re a small entity, but within you is enfolded the entire universe. You are indeed the evident book, by whose alphabet the hidden becomes manifest. Therefore, you have no need to look beyond yourself. What you seek is within you, if only you reflect.

inIt is reported that Hadhrat ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib once wrote to Hadhrat Salman al-Farsi {May Allah be well pleased with them} and it read:
The likeness of the life of this world is that of a snake: it is soft to the touch, yet it will kill you with its poison. So turn away from that which impresses/amazes you of it, since what stays with you is so minimal. And do not be concerned/worry about it, since you are certain about its leaving. And be most happy in it when you are most heedful of it; for every time its companion takes comfort in one of its delights, it gives way to one of its woes.

inIt was asked from Hadhrat ‘Ali (radi Allahu ‘anhu)
How should a person take account of himself?
Hadhrat ‘Ali (radi Allahu ‘anhu) replied:
When a person ends his day, then he should turn towards himself and say ‘O self! This day that has passed will not return. Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) will ask you about how you wasted your day. He will ask you about the actions you performed, whether you remembered Him and praised Him? Whether you fulfilled a right of your fellow believer? Did you remove a difficulty that befell upon a believer? Did you protect his children in his absence? Did you safeguard his rights after his death? Did you – on account of your position – prevent anyone from backbiting your believing brother? Did you help any Muslim throughout the day?
