The Ten Inner Prerequisites of Reciting the Qur’an

Reciting the Qur’an disciplines the soul in many respects. It teaches man what he is required to do and stirs in him what he needs to purify his soul. Reciting the Qur’an enlightens the heart and reminds it of every proper conduct. In this… way, it aids the other duties of Islam bringing forth their fruits, such as the Prayer, alms-giving, fasting and the pilgrimage. Reciting the Qur’an is more likely to be effective if one ponders over the meanings with humility and contemplation

The Ten Inner Prerequisites of Reciting the Qur’an are:

  1. Understanding the original meaning of the words in the Qur’an
  2. Feeling of awe
  3. Consciousness of the heart
  4. Pondering over the meanings
  5. Deep understanding
  6. Abandoning the barriers of understanding
  7. The feel that Allah is addressing you
  8. To respond to the meanings of the words
  9. To be aware that Allah is witnessing your recitation
  10. To believe the words of the Qur’an are referring to you

Sickness and medicine

Hazrat Qatada (rahimahu Llah) has said,

The Qur’an shows you your sickness and your medicine. Your Sickness is sin and your medicine is the prayer for forgivness.

How can I be with the Messenger ﷺ ? By Shaykh Habib Ali al-Jifri (may Allah preserve him and benefit us by him)

1137

‘Allah points the believers to a great and noble matter: the honour of being with our Master Muhammad ﷺ.

Allah says: “Those who obey Allah and the Messenger are with those that Allah has favoured – of the Prophets, the people of immense truthfulness, the martyrs and the pious. They are the best of company!”

“Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him…”

“The Day that Allah will not permit the Prophet and those who believe with him to be humiliated. Their Light will run forward before them and by their right hands…”

How can someone be with the Prophet?

  • By loving him

Our Master ﷺ said: “A man is with the one he loves.”

  • By bestowing abundant prayers upon him

He said: “The closest of people to me on the Day of Judgement will be those that bestow most prayers upon me.”

  • By showing beautiful character

Our Master ﷺ said (May Allah make us among those people he was referring to): “The closest of you to me on the Day of Judgement will be those of you most beautiful in character – those who are approachable and who easily get along with others and whom others easily get along with.”

  • By following him and showing obedience to him

Allah says: “Those who obey Allah and the Messenger are with those that Allah has favoured – of the Prophets, the people of immense truthfulness, the martyrs and the pious. They are the best of company!”

  • By looking after orphans

He said ﷺ: “I and the one that takes care of an orphan will be like these two in paradise.” [he said ‘these two’ while joining his forefinger and middle finger].

O Allah, grant us the honour of being with him, purely through Your bounty and enabling grace, O Generous, O Loving One, O Bestower!’

I am absolved of those words…

2506885844

As long as I am alive, I am a servant of the Qur’an, and a grain of sand on the path of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. If anyone narrates anything from me but this, I am absolved of those words, and of him.

What came first?

1031

Monday came first, Friday came after.

Rabi al-Awwal came first, Ramadan came after.

Prophet ﷺ was sent first, Qur’an was sent after.

Prophet ﷺ came first, Islām came after.

Prophet ﷺ came first, Imān came first.

In conclusion, rejoice for what came first and then what came after.

Do you have a weak memory?

Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu ‘anhu said,

three things strengthen the memory… 1) Brushing the teeth with Miswak, 2) fasting and 3) recitation of al Quran.
