Sayyiduna Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (radi Allahu ‘anhu) resided in Madinag and was raised in a Muslim household. He participated in all the battles with the Prophet (salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) except Badr where he was bound by an agreement made with Quraysh.

Sayyiduna Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (radi Allahu ‘anhu) could easily be entrusted with confidential and sensitive information. For this reason, the Prophet (salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) disclosed the list of hypocrites to him fo rthe purpose of tracking their movements. Sayyiduna Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (radi Allahu ‘anhu) was also selected by Prophet (salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) to infiltrate the enemy camp during the battle of al-Khandaq to gather intelligence.

During the Caliphate of Sayyiduna ‘Umar al-Farooq (radi Allahu ‘anhu), he was placed second in command in the battle of Nihawand against the Persian Empire. Under his leadership, the Muslims won this crucial battle and many others besides. Sayyiduna Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (radi Allahu ‘anhu) was appointed as the governor of the former Persian Capital. While even on his death bed, he continued to advise the Muslims in the affairs of the their religion.
