In chapter 3 of the Burda, in his commentary of the magnum opus of Imam Sharaf ad-Din al-Busayri, Imam Ibrahim al-Bayjuri (rahimahu Llah)  writes:

If the Prophet of Allah (salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) had remained non-existent, then the universe would not have come to be. Allah said to Adam (`alayhi sallam): “If Muhammad had not existed, I would not have created you. Adam is the father of all men and whatever is in the Earth has been created for man.” So when Adam was created due to the existence of the Prophet of Allah (salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), then it is obvious that the whole world was created due to him. Hence, the Prophet (salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is the cause and the reason for all existence.
